Different
Techniques used to Create Stop-Motion Animation
What
is Animation?
The
technique of using multiple images viewed in rapid sequence to create
motion is called animation.
To understand animation in a better way, try this: Example: Imagine
yourself holding a magazine where each page features a picture of a
bowl sitting on a table. You see that every picture is different as
if the picture rotated the bowl slightly before capturing each image
angle. When you flip rapidly through the pages, the cup appears to
spin. Let take a look and discuss about stop-motion
animation and its techniques.

What
is Stop-Motion Animation?
There
are different types of animation. Traditional cell animation uses
images sketched or painted by hand, and computer animation uses
images created with computer software and hardware. Stop-motion
animation uses images created with objects such as clay models or
paper cutouts.
Stop-otion
animation is a simple process. The artist places all the objects to
be animated in their positions. An image of the objects is then
captured on film. Then the object is moved slightly, and then another
image is captured. This process of capturing image from a different
angle is repeated hundreds or thousands of times.

Example:
To create a video using stop-motion animation featuring a bunch of
pens that move in a circular pattern. You start by positioning the
pens in a circle and take a picture using a digital camera. You move
the pens slightly in a clockwise direction and take another picture.
Then repeat this process until you have taken all the pictures.
You
then transfer all the pictures to your computer where you use special
software to create a video which rapidly displays the picture in the
order they were taken. When you play the video, the pens move in a
circle just as you imagined. This is how you created your stop-motion
animation video.
Stop-Motion
Animation Techniques
Stop-motion
animation
techniques include object animation, puppet
animation, clay animation and cutout animation. The basic difference
among these techniques is the type of object used to create the
animation. Also, stop-motion animation is combined with a live action
film or video footage using a process called compositing.
1.
Object Animation
Object
animation is one of the most widely used stop-motion animation
techniques. Simple objects are used to create this type of animation.
2.
Puppet Animation
Stop-motion
animation make use of more complex models with detailed textures and
movable parts are called puppet animation.

3.
Clay Animation
Clay
animation has been used to create very memorable stop-motion
animation. The object used in this are built and designed with
flexible modeling such as plasticine. It allows the object to be bent
slightly or entirely reshaped.
